Legacy Paintings by Lucille Stewart Fannin

For centuries, individuals and families of means have chronicled key family members in original oil paintings.  While some of these have become famous works of art, most were not conceived as "great art" as much as a means of preserving the memories of family members for future generations.

Today, we live in an age of photography that enables anyone to capture images in photorealistic styles.  Yet, there remains a place for individual portraits in oil.

There is something special and lasting about an oil portrait that cannot be duplicated by any photograph, no matter how well done or whether it may be enhanced by adding paint as is sometimes done.

Lucille invites you to view some of her individual portraits and to discuss how your family members can have their image preserved in oil for generations to come.

Lucille believes passionately in getting to know her subject well prior to beginning a commissioned work.  She meets with the subject and gets to know the person or pet.  She takes dozens (sometimes more than one hundred) photographs and develops color studies - "rough drafts" that offer an idea of what the finished work will look like.  These are then presented for approval prior to commencement of the actual painting.

On this website you will find some examples of Lucille's work.  These photographic representations offer only an approximation of the originals.  They cannot begin to fully present the depth and beauty of the original oil paintings that Lucille creates.  If you are interested in seeing some of Lucille's original works, please contact her to make an appointment to view some of her paintings in the "original".
