Lucille
For many of us, animal friends are as much a part of the family as the individuals to whom we are related. All too often, our favorite pets are with us for too short a span of time. Portraits that capture the personality of a favorite pet can keep the pet with us well beyond its life span.
Lucille loves painting pets. She has painted both dogs and cats who have been devoted members of her family and also has captured the personalities of pets for many other persons.
Elsewhere on this page you will see some of Lucille's favorites. Guss is the pet of Lucille's daughter Catherine and son-in-law Matt. Guss lives in England, has developed a taste for tea and meows with a British accent.
Tiger was Lucille's own cat for over 20 years until he passed away in 2010. He is pictured on a chair with a needlepoint pillow that contains an image of his litter-mate and sister, Madame X. She passed away in 2011.
Another kind of "pet" is depicted in the Koi Pond.
Lucille's painting of the Thompson Farm in her native Kentucky serves both as an animal portrait and a landscape. The Thompson Farm is situated immediately across the country road from Lucille's childhood home.
Carol & Amanda capture a Kentucky friend and her favorite pet, Amanda. The single of Amanda is a color study for the formal portrait.
One of the most difficult effects to achieve in oil painting is to capture a black dog or cat. In the portrait below of a black lab, the effect is captured beautifully, as with Amanda in the next column.
